Reslow Does It Again, Secures 2nd South County Football Win in Final Drive!
3/30/23
Coach Reslow made his way onto the grass of Elderidge Field in East Greenwich knowing that the contest was not remotely in the bag. Nursing injuries, a bad left shoulder and touchy right Achillies tendon, along with facing a very amped Coach Ridge Porter…last year’s clutch win couldn’t feel more far away. As Reslow started to hurl the ball in preparation, he turned to Ben Lind and mumbled, “Gonna take a miracle this time…”
Sides were picked and the contest began in earnest. Reslow came out on fire. Finding receivers at will, Reslow’s side quickly jumped out to a two, then a three, touchdown lead. Outs, Fades, Crossing Patterns, Deep Posts…everything was connecting. Coach Ridge and his crew were hanging on by a thread as the old man slung it like in his prime.
But then came halftime…
Little was known what Coach Ridge said to his team during the halftime period. What did show, was the adjustments. All of a sudden Reslow couldn’t find anyone open, and worse, began throwing interceptions. Before anyone could blink, Porter was finding players open and scoring at will. The lead diminished quickly.
Ultimately, Reslow would throw 12 touchdowns, run one in himself, and 3, costly, interceptions. Porter eventually outshined the old gunslinger with 13 touchdowns, also ran one in, and threw couple of picks of his own. There was also a race between DJ Lepine and Titus Brown for scoring. Lepine carried a crucial kick return over the line for a score that kept Reslow’s side afloat after they lost the lead for the only time on the day. Titus Brown was making huge catch after huge catch, often leaping out of a pack to make ridiculous, game-changing, grabs.
Other key moments for Reslow’s side included a ridiculous interception by the elusive Ben Sousa, some huge catches by the massive target of Jack Kenyon, and Josiah Brown showing some wheels getting to pay dirt.
For Ridge’s side, you have to start with the play of Ryan Murphy who was catching everything early on. Chris Harvey had some key receptions late, while Connor DeSousa played both tight end and lineman, somehow blocking Ben Lind once Ben had gathered a head of steam. Chistian Mak and Connor Lloyd both made crucial plays in the second half as Ridge’s side was in position to claim victory…
Just one problem, with the game on the line, the ball was in Reslow’s hands. The old man calmly marched his team down the field and with a quick look to Lepine as a blitz was coming…it was over.
Though the article above is lots of tongue and cheek, it, nonetheless, was great to have our second annual South County end of club season football game. It’s a celebration of the accomplishments all of the 18s made this campaign as well as an opportunity to have some fun while still working and competing. Big thanks to everyone that brought food! Hope to see bigger numbers next year!
