South County Boys 18-1s Ranked 3rd in New England
2/1/23
Since coming to South County Club Volleyball in 2020, Coach Reslow has worked to continue the ascendancy of the boys’ program in the club circuit. With an 18-1s program that now plays in the open division for club, Reslow has led teams to win tournaments, place in major events, and also participate in tournaments that are next level in scope. With a college type system being run, and the dedication and talent of a select crew of athletes from Rhode Island and Connecticut, the South County 18-1s in the past have won the silver bracket in Boston at the open level, played in their first final of a major, and attended the Mid-Atlantic Bid Tournament in Pennsylvania at the open level, along with big wins over clubs along the Northeast.
2023, has taken the program to a new level! This season, the 18-1s have reached the final in every tournament they’ve played, winning three titles and finishing the runner-up twice. Currently, they are ranked third in New England, and are once again heading to Pennsylvania to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Bid Tournament at Spooky Nook Sports Complex at the open division. There are also talks of attending AAU Nationals in Orlando, Florida. Not since the days of the original Blast team that featured RI Volleyball legends Scott Grandpre, Eddy DelSignore, Kevin MacDonald, and Steve Fuller, has there been a Rhode Island Boys Club team this successful…or at least in this coach’s recent memory.
The South County 18-1 Blue, official title, will be competing this weekend at Mohegan Sun at the AAU Championship Series Tournament. From there, they’ll get a week off and then resume their season, traveling down to Pennsylvania for the Mid-Atlantic Regional. Boston lurks after that to cap the official 2023 campaign…for the time being. Ideally, they’ll also attend the AAU Nationals Tournament in Orlando, Florida in late June to compete against the best club teams in the United States.
