Football Game for South County 18s Ends in Success…

March 23, 2022

With the club season in the rearview mirror, the South County 18s programs met for a final event…and this one had little to do with volleyball. Instead, a massive game of two-hand touch football commenced in a field at Goddard Park featuring members of all three 18 club teams.

Head Coach Scott Reslow, donning a Shane “Footsteps” Falco jersey, quarterbacked one side, while the endlessly entertaining Head Coach Gio Zabatta slung the ball for the other side. Both Qbs threw for numerous touchdowns in this one. Reslow threw 15 TDs with 5 interceptions in the victory. Zabatta threw 14 TDs with 3 picks, none more crucial then the Vincent Yin interception late in the game. Yin, the game’s Most Valuable Player, stepped in front of an attempted goal line pass, nabbing the Zabatta thrown ball and traversing the majority of the field till he was stopped at the 20 yard line. Reslow then found Matt Tiernan, making a second clutch catch, in the endzone for the game winning score.

Mason Andrade was a force in this one with numerous touchdowns, an interception, and several QB hurries in the defeat. Jack Johnson amassed three interceptions and was Zabatta’s top kick returner. Slot receiver Cooper Weir also had a solid game and was in the hunt for MVP if Zabatta’s crew could have pulled this one out.

For Reslow’s side, Chris Buonaccorsi had a late pick that changed the momentum of the game when things looked tough. Nick Lisi made some incredible catches as well, as Reslow’s accuracy forced him to be next level. Deep threat Jordan Bou had two crucial touchdowns that kept things close.

Every single player in this one made huge contributions to their team. The event was an excellent way to conclude a successful club volleyball season and perhaps started an annual event that could feature current players and alumni from the South County volleyball club.
